Hamlin Beach Earth Day celebration planned

Hamlin Beach State Park will be the site of the area’s largest Earth Day celebration on April 24 beginning at 10 a.m. and running until 2 p.m. The celebration will take place in Area 4 of the park.

A partnership between New York State Parks, the Town of Hamlin, SUNY Brockport and the Hamlin Lions Club, Earth Day 2010 will include nearly 25 booths featuring environmental topics ranging from green building technology to invasive species to recycling. Fuel efficient cars from local car dealers will also be on display. New this year, entertainment from 1 to 2 p.m. by the Dady Brothers as well as Poetry Readings, a Craft/Antiques/Collectibles sale, and live on site broadcasting by SUNY Brockport Radio Station 89.1. An organized beach clean up, the distribution of free tree saplings, and planting of park tree saplings are also planned. Guided tours of both Springbrook Marsh, followed by the CCC/POW camp, will commence about 2:15 p.m.

Free food and refreshments will be on hand and participants are urged to bring their own travel mugs as a gesture of sustainability. The Lions Club will be accepting donations of used eyeglasses and hearing aids.
