  • The Hilton High School Cadets Girls Volleyball team hosted their fourth annual “Dig Pink” for breast cancer awareness game Monday evening, teaming up with the Brockport Blue Devils for a night that recognizes the strength and determination of women, young and old. As has become a tradition, the Lady Cadets wore special pink team jerseys. Coaches and fans came dressed in pink too.
The team encouraged fans to make a donation in support of breast cancer awareness. Contributors were rewarded with pink rubber wristband bracelets and pink bubblegum. Over $350 was collected for this breast cancer event.
With a packed Hilton High School gymnasium decked out in pink ribbons, balloons, and blow-up pink volleyballs, the evening’s match against the Blue Devils didn’t disappoint the Hilton fans. The Cadets took games one and two, but the Blue Devils came back firing, winning games three and four.
When the Cadets found themselves in a 24-21 hole late in the fifth and final game, sophomore middle Dayle Taber served the Cadets to a 24-24 game position. Cadets’ junior setter Jessica Swanson served the last two points, helping Hilton beat their cross-town rival in five games.
Hilton's aerial assault was led by seniors Hayley Fallesen (20 kills), Kate Steger (13 kills), and junior Maria Jackson (14 kills). Setting up the fly team were setters senior Miranda DiMaria and Swanson who applied 49 assists.
Hilton is now 9-1 on the year, and will battle a great Victor Blue Devil team on Thursday night.
Always big on team building and bonding activities, the Dig Pink game is just one way in which Coach Kevin Hunt keeps his team together on and off the court—by working toward a common goal and cause.
“The noise levels in the gym were insane and the intensity on the court was no different,” said Hunt. “My theme for the team this year has been ‘work hard, play hard, be hard...and the sky is the limit.’ I think the team is keeping that focus.”
