The Patriots upset top seeded Fairport to reach their second straight final, while the Titans eliminate Pittsford to get back to the championship game for the first time since 2009. The finals will be held on Tuesday at St. John Fisher.
The Victor boys lacrosse team struggled to possess the ball in the first half and trailed Irondequoit at halftime. The No. 3 seed Blue Devils started to win face-offs in the second half and pulled off a 7-5 comeback win over No. 2 Irondequoit in the Section 5 Class B semifinals at Webster Schroeder High School on Friday.
Freshman T.D. Ierlan came up big on draws and the Blue Devils outscored the Eagles 5-1 in the second half.
“Once we got control of the face-offs it was all about offense and possession,” first-year Victor coach Jim Andre said. “In the first half I was pleased with what my offense was doing. The problem was we didn’t get the ball enough to produce. We started winning face-offs, we started clearing the ball better and we were able to get the ball in the right kids’ hands.”
All season long, the Canandaigua boys lacrosse team’s goal was to return to the Section 5 Class B finals. The Braves raised their level of play with only one team standing between them and St. John Fisher College’s Growney Stadium. Top-seeded Canandaigua overpowered No. 4 Churchville-Chili in a 15-2 win in the semifinals at Webster Schroeder High School on Friday.
“I think you could see the level of intensity we had from kids just walking in the locker room. I’ve never seen it before,” Braves senior Zak Bussey said. “At the beginning of the year we played just how we played tonight. It slowed down a little bit, but we’ve been really busting our butts in practice and getting stuff done.”

The third-seeded Fairport softball team defeated sixth-seeded Gates Chili 20-0 in the Section 5 Class AA1 quarterfinals on Thursday at Fairport High School.
