The Fairport Red Raider Girls Cross-Country team logged solid performances in three races on a rain-soaked, muddy Parma Park course during the Monroe County Championship Meet on Saturday.
Setting the tone for the day were Fairport’s JV girls, who scored a third-place finish in their nine-team division, with their top five runners all finishing in the top 20.
Leading the way were freshmen Jen Broderick (seventh overall in a field of nearly 120 runners) and Katarina Nichols (tenth overall). They were followed by Raiders Christian Conner, Lindsey Shear, Claire Gilmore, Emory McDowell, Adrienne Reda, Michaela Meissner, Abigail Williams, Tayler DelNagro, Jasmine Mohan, Emily Parsons, Gabrielle Bell, Abigail D’Angelo, Maeve Sargeant, Mackenzie Murphy, and Zoe Kaltenbach.
Next up was the Varsity A Girls race, where Fairport finished eighth in a field of over 20 teams. First for the Raiders was freshman Rachael Jones, who came in twenty-third overall in 19:32 on the 5-kilometer course. Loryn Bucci, Shannon Horan, Katie Swider, Erin Sedita, Sarah Shapley, and Mary-Ammielle Nichols all finished in the top 75 for FHS.
The final contest of the day was the Varsity B Girls race, where Fairport took fourth place in a 10-team grouping. Senior Ashley Ghaemi led the way with a top-five finish. Also logging strong runs were Janine Burdette, Maddy Hawkes, Carlie Gutzmer, Savannah Krochalis, Jenni Bruno, Olivia Kozody, Hannah Gallagher, Sarah Abbott, Emma Dustman, Hannah Giancola, Rachel Willard, Carly Lenhardt, Sophia Kraynik, Natalie Buchanan, and Maya Merberg.
Fairport’s top runners will move on to the Section 5 Championship Meet on Saturday at Genesee Community College. The State Meet takes place a week later at Elma Meadows.
