Bio: Son of Dan, Anthony recently completed his third varsity season for the Greece Thunder, finishing the season as the program's all-time leading scorer with 125 points.
Merola amassed 45 points this past season (37g, 8a), placing him 17th in Section 5 in goals scored and earning in first-team All-County honors. As a sophomore he collected 49 points (34g, 15 assists) and finished 19th in goals scored in Section 5 on his way to second-team All-County honors, coming off his freshman campaign during which he tallied 25 goals and 6 assists. His 125 career points places him first all-time in scoring for the Greece Thunder boys lacrosse program, passing previous record holder Nate Wallenhorse.
After taking up lacrosse as a youngster Merola has advanced through the ranks alongside his family, who were all new to the sport when he first got started. His brother, Hunter, and sister, Brooklyn, are following his his footsteps in junior lacrosse and his father plays on multiple levels. Anthony keeps his skills sharp with the Blaze Lacrosse Club and FCA Lacrosse, as represented the Western New York region as a member of the FCA national-championship team in 2010.
Though only a junior, Merola's search for an institute of higher learning has already begun. With visits to Division I Jacksonville and Division II Mercyhurst already under his belt, he is sure to have many more college coaches on the lookout for his commitment.
