After his recent standout performance at Offense-Defense Camp at Kean University in New Jersey, Greece youth football player Sebastian Danker has been named an all-American for the second consecutive year.

Danker, 10, earned Offense-Defense All-American honors last year after his performance at the camp at SUNY Brockport, also earning him a trip to All-American week. Building off his success at Brockport his parents opted this year for the more competitive camp in New Jersey, pitting Sebastian against nearly triple the number of participants in a much more competitive environment. Through a week of two-and-a-half hour practices under grueling conditions he once again displayed a high level of character and play. By the end of the week his hard work and leadership made him a standout to the coaching staff, earning him his second invitation to All-American Bowl Week.

In its seventh year, Offense-Defense All American Bowl week showcases youth teams in a large variety of age brackets at combines, clinics, conventions and tournaments. After a late change in venue shifted last year’s American Bowl Week from Myrtle Beach to Dallas, Sebastian got to practice and compete with the top football players his age from around the country in the city of this favorite pro team. In his two games in Texas (one in Cowboys Stadium), he totaled four sacks, two forced fumbles, two fumble recoveries along with a handful of tackles for losses on his way to being named co-Defensive MVP. To top it off Sebastian earned MVP honors while playing on the side of the ball unfamiliar to him, as he served as the quarterback, running back and tight end for the Greece Chargers the past two seasons.

While earning All-American honors once is a great achievement, being bestowed the honor twice is an accomplishment of a much greater proportion. With coaches taking into account an athlete’s previous performance, campers much display an even higher level of skill the second time through if they hope to have their name called again. Up against a much larger playing field and competing at a higher level than last year Danker answered the challenge and earned his return trip.

The Offense-Defense Camp has been running full-contact football camps for over 40 years. All-American Bowl Week concluded with an all-star game featuring 88 of the top high school seniors in the country, and has featured pros such as Cam Newton and Dez Bryant on their way to the NFL.

This season Danker will move up to the Junior Pee Wee level as he looks to help the team defend its 2011 state championship.
