I and my family have lived on Titus Avenue near Titus and Cooper for 33 years, since 1979. If the Town of Irondequoit granted a developer a 25-year PILOT (payment in lieu of taxes) in 1979, similar to Nolan’s request, just think of what new development would have occurred since then. We probably wouldn’t have a faded-out sign for Irondequoit Plaza on Hudson Avenue like we’ve had for 15 years or more. Instead of a Big Lots and a dollar store in Irondequoit Plaza, we’d probably have Starbucks and maybe a Chipotle. The Cooper Deli and House of Guitars, which have been hallmarks of the community, could have been much more, and the potential is still there. Instead of a field of weeds across from Irondequoit Plaza, we’d have actual development. Surrounding property values would have increased and new business would have moved into the area.
I appeal to the Town of Irondequoit to look to the future and not be another Kodak.
