It has been my pleasure to serve the residents and people of Webster, Penfield, Fairport/Perinton and East Rochester for the past two years. I have spent the time working with Governor Cuomo and colleagues from both sides of the aisle to get New York back on track.

Since my time in office, we have had two on-time budgets which have cut more than $13 billion in wasteful spending, instituted a statewide property tax cap and now have the lowest middle class tax rate in nearly 60 years. My predecessor did not do that.

I have also helped bring in nearly $69 million in economic development funding, invested $34 million in local high-tech manufacturing and launched programs like ReCharge NY to help small businesses. My opponent did not do that.

During my time in the State Assembly, our state has adopted new ethics guidelines, restored cuts made to the EPIC program and restored the sales tax exemption on clothing purchases under $110. Another list of accomplishments my opponent cannot claim.

But I can tell you what my opponent did in his 15 years in Albany. He voted for several late budgets — some of which included spending at three times the rate of inflation. He flip-flopped on his idea of term limits — until he spent 15 years in office so that he could become a career politician. He also claims to have “stood up” to Speaker Sheldon Silver — but voted with him more than 95 percent of the time and took money to fund his campaigns.

I have been able to work to change the culture in Albany. When my predecessor was in office, the State Assembly had its lowest approval rating of all time! 76 percent of people polled thought New York was headed in the wrong direction. During my tenure, the Assembly has the highest approval rating ever — and more people than ever before believe New York is back on track.

I am not alone in thinking this. I have also received the support and endorsements of the Democrat and Chronicle, Rochester Business Alliance, local law enforcement and nearly every local labor union.

A vote for Assemblyman Mark Johns is a vote for Real Reform. Once re-elected, I will give the people of the 135th Assembly District an independent voice — not march lock-step with the downstate party bosses. I will push for term limits and other reforms to make New York State a better place to live, work and raise a family.

My opponent said, “… the voters got what they deserve,” and I agree. The voters got the change that was needed in Albany. The voters got someone who truly cares about people first — not politics. The voters got someone who cares about the 135th Assembly District.

I thank you for your continued support over the past two years and for allowing me to be your voice in Albany. With your vote on Nov. 6, I can continue to fight for you.

Assemblyman Mark Johns is currently a member of the New York State Assembly and is running for re-election to the 135th Assembly District.
