As a citizen, I not only have a duty, but also I have an obligation to ask questions and express my opinions to my elected representatives. I communicate with my senators and Congress people on a regular basis.
Mostly, I write to Senators Schumer and Gillibrand regarding a variety of current issues facing our country today. In particular, I have asked the senators questions about what are their opinions and positions regarding our huge deficit, the Fast and Furious scandal, the GSA’s luxury trip to Las Vegas, the Solyndra debacle, and the excessive and lavish travel of the First Lady. All of which are legitimate questions. I get no response from Senator Schumer.
However, I did get one, and only one, response from Senator Gillibrand. It was a form letter, which in no way remotely addressed any of my questions or concerns. I suspect that a staff member reached into the response letter file and pulled out, at random, a file letter to no one.
As a result of my prolonged experience with my elected representatives, I have concluded that I have no one representing me in government, nor does anyone else. For the amount of money we pay them to represent us, including the cost of their staffs, we deserve far better. Also, it should be pointed out that Senator Gillibrand was one of only seven senators who voted to continue the federal funding of ACORN after James O’Keefe exposed their blatant corruption.
