Greece EMTs were respectful and professional

Last week I was having lunch at a restaurant in Greece when an elderly gentleman in a nearby booth suffered a seizure of some kind. He was immediately lowered to the floor and another lunch patron began chest compressions.

In a very short time Greece Volunteer Ambulance (GVA) EMTs arrived. If I had not seen them come in, I would not have known they were there. Immediately one of them dropped to the floor and relieved the gentleman, doing chest compressions while the others set up their equipment. There was no talking, no disturbance. Each knew his job and did it! The only time that anything was said at all audibly was when it was necessary to use a defibrillator and they had to stand and call “clear.”

When the patient was stabilized they carefully readied him for transport as quietly as they came in. By then he was breathing on his own and we all said a prayer for his recovery.

We in Greece are so very fortunate to have such a caring crew of respectful and professional EMTs like the crew I saw at work. A Greece fire unit also responded. Unfortunately I did not see which one, but they seemed to work well with the GVA staff. When the envelope comes in the mail asking for a donation, remember this scenario and be generous. It could be you needing their help.
