The Gates Department of Public Works will approve cutting down all the trees that line the streets in Gates. The spokesman said they are messy and costly, clogging up gutters and pushing up sidewalks. That they also add beauty, reduce noise and make the neighborhoods cooler apparently doesn't count. They also add beauty to the community.

The trees belong to all of us, and a bureaucrat in Town Hall shouldn't be the decider. I am asking everyone who loves trees and how they make our community more attractive to call Town Hall, call council members. The number is 247-6100.

I am just sick that every tree that lines our streets in Gates is slated for destruction.
