Greece Town Supervisor Bill Reilich and town board members Mike Barry, Brett Granville, Andrew Conlon and Diana Christodaro recently honored Sam DeRosa’s appointment as North Greece Fire District fire chief by declaring April 18 as Chief Sam DeRosa Day.
DeRosa was sworn in by the NGFD Board of Commissioners as the first full-time fire chief in November 2016. He is responsible for leading the district’s administrative and operational branches. DeRosa previously served as interim director for the Monroe County Office of Emergency Management and as Monroe County fire coordinator.
His skills were put to the test during the recent wind storm when wind gusts surpassed 80 mph, causing downed power lines and trees and leaving nearly 100,000 people in the Rochester area without power. He worked with Reilich, Greece Town Board and Greece Police Department to ensure the safety and wellbeing of Greece residents.
“The leadership and professionalism exemplified by Chief DeRosa during the wind storm last month made him a necessary asset during the state of emergency,” Reilich said. “The town of Greece is thankful and honored to have an individual like Chief DeRosa as fire chief of the North Greece Fire District. I look forward to continuing to work with Chief DeRosa in the future.”
