Wegmans Food Markets is hosting a Culinary Teen Camp Scholarship contest, open to teens ages 12 to 18.

The family-owned grocery store chain is offering two teens a chance to attend either Wegmans Menu Cooking School in Rochester or Wegmans Menu Cooking Events in Buffalo on a scholarship. The culinary camp spans five days and covers everything from food safety to menu planning and meal presentation.

Wegmans Culinary Teen Camps have been teaching teenagers about the basics of cooking since 2007, using standard cooking techniques. Instructors include executive chef Mark Makovec in Rochester and Wegmans chef Fred Torrell in Buffalo, as well as a variety of guest instructors.

The camp experience ends with a graduation celebration featuring food prepared by the participants.

To enter the competition, students must submit an essay of up to 350 words in response to the question, "What has inspired you to learn more about cooking?" The deadline for entry is Jan. 30.

Entries can be sent by email to menucookingschool@wegmans.com or by postal mail to Wegmans Menu Cooking School, Attn: Angela Volta, P.O. Box 30844, 1500 Brooks Ave., Rochester, NY 14624. Include your name, age, parent's name, mailing address, email address, phone number and whether your entry is for Rochester or Buffalo, along with your essay.

Winners will be chosen by a panel of Wegmans employees and announced on Feb. 8.
