A new 16,700 square foot automobile facility, heated solely by waste oil from vehicle oil changes, is coming to Greece in the first week of February.
Ideal Nissan currently runs a dealership on 1600 East Ridge Road in Irondequout, and on the heels of a $313,000 property tax break approved by the County of Monroe Industrial Development Agency, the dealership will be relocating to Greece, on 4036 W. Ridge Road.
The new facility, which is expected to create a minimum of 13 new jobs over three years, will break ground on new green initiatives not only with a progressive heating strategy, but also with the release of Nissan's new electric car, The Leaf, which is expected to officially be available in the next three months.
The Leaf is 100 percent electric, uses no fossil fuels and emits no pollutants. For those who decide to purchase an electric vehicle, the new facility will also offer an electric charging station, free for residents' use.
Customers who come to the facility will get oil changes free for life, said Angelo Ingrassia, president of Ideal Nissan. The oil will be recycled and used to heat the facility, eliminating waste and creating a win-win for both business and customer, said Ingrassia.
"No one as far as I know has ever done what i'm doing," said Ingrassia. "The oil is extracted out of the vehicle during the oil change process, and then stored in a tank. The oil is then burned by a boiler and that boiler boils water that will travel through to the servce department area, where it will run through the tubing and heat the floor."
Judy Seil, executive director at COMIDA, said the agency offered $313,000 in tax incentives. The facility in turn will provide $715,000 over 10 years in tax revenue for the town.
Ideal Nissan in Greece is one of five local economic development projects approved for COMIDA assistance. Monroe County Executive Maggie Brooks announced earlier this week that COMIDA has also approved assistance for Eagles Landing 1 LLC on 1565 Jefferson Road, His Land VI LLC at 920 Emerson St. in Rochester, Advent Tool and Mold Co. Inc. on 999 Ridgeway Ave., and Riverview Rochester LLC on the corner of Exchange Boulevard and Broad Street.
