State Assemblyman Joseph D. Morelle, D, Irondequoit, will be joined tonight by Upstate New York Families for Effective Autism Treatment at a free public forum hosted by Autism Speaks to discuss the details of New York’s new autism law, which takes effect Nov. 1.
The forum runs from 6 to 8 p.m. today, Tuesday, Sept. 18, at the Ryan Case Lecture Hall in the University of Rochester’s Kornberg Research Center, 415 Elmwood Ave., Rochester.
Morelle worked with advocacy groups like UNYFEAT and Autism Speaks to sponsor and pass the autism law in 2011. The new statute requires many insurance carriers to cover treatment for autism spectrum disorders, including Applied Behavior Analysis, speech therapy, occupational therapy, and physical therapy.
