A city woman is scheduled to appear in court Friday morning after a 10-month-old girl overdosed on a drug prescribed to treat opiate addiction.
Amanda S. Wallace, 30, of 275 Jefferson Ave., was charged July 11 with endangering the welfare of a child after she recklessly allowed the baby to ingest the drug, according to Canandaigua police.
The overdose was reported June 24 after a concerned party told authorities the baby showed signs of being extremely lethargic, said Sgt. Scott Kadien.
The drug suboxone was left in an unsecure location of the house where the child had access to it, Kadien said.
The baby was first treated at F.F. Thompson Hospital in Canandaigua and then transferred to Strong Memorial Hospital in Rochester.
Although the baby was in the hospital for several days, she has since been released and is expected to make a full recovery, Kadien said.
Police, who were assisted in the investigation by Ontario County protective services, are trying to determine who the drug was prescribed to, Kadien said.
