The Lake Shore Fire District’s new Fire Rescue Boat is a 19-foot Boston Whaler Guardian with a 150 horsepower outboard engine. The boat will be able to respond with a fireman and an emergency medical technician to water rescue emergency calls on Lake Ontario and Braddocks Bay in a much more timely manner than ever before.
Firefighters say it will provide a safer and more stable platform to provide rescue and EMS services to patients.
The boat is equipped with a state of the art sonar and side scanning for submerged objects, a GPS, and chart plotting capability. It has a removable dive door for easy rescue of a patient from the water.
The boat is moored in the water at the Braddocks Marina for easy access to Lake Ontario.
The department will still have its smaller, 14-foot inflatable boat for rescue responses in our area ponds and streams in the fire district.
"We are still in the process of training our firemen on the operation of this vessel and believe this is a valuable asset to our residents of the Lake Shore Community," said Lake Shore Fire District Chief Jared Meeker. "We are grateful for the partial state grant that we received for this project from State Senator Joe Robach."
