The former Gates Chili boys basketball coach accused of raping a student could go to trial next month.

Monte Nowden was in court Friday morning. The judge set his trial date for July 9.

Nowden is also facing a separate charge for criminal contempt.

Prosecutors say he violated a no contact order put in place after he was accused of having sex with a student in February at the Tinseltown movie theater in Gates.

Police say they spotted him with the 16-year-old girl in May.

Nowden is due back in court July 6 for a pretrial hearing.
