A suspect in the slaying of a western New York music teacher more than two decades ago is scheduled to be arraigned at the upstate prison where he has been incarcerated for unrelated convictions.
Rochester media outlets report that 59-year-old Edward Laraby is expected to be arraigned Monday on charges related to the killing of Stephanie Kupchynsky. The 27-year-old from the town of Greece disappeared in July 1991. Her remains were found seven years later in rural Orleans County.
Laraby was a maintenance worker at the apartment complex where Kupchynsky lived. He’s currently serving two life sentences at Wende Correctional Facility outside Buffalo for sexual abuse and attempted murder.
Monroe County District Attorney Sandra Doorley has scheduled a news conference later Monday to discuss the case.
