Comedian Jim Gaffigan doesn’t have trouble making people laugh, however, he does struggle with some things — like trying to pronounce Canandaigua.

“It looks like someone was writing Canada,” Gaffigan joked during Thursday’s show at Constellation Brands-Marvin Sands Performing Arts Center. “And they were really drunk.”

Gaffigan drew laughs from his Canandaigua-specific material — he also joked that even Google Maps has trouble locating the region. He reprised some of his more popular jokes for the CMAC crowd too. His material included observations on shellfish, fortune cookies and body wash.

While there was plenty of applause for Gaffigan’s take on foods, including bacon forks and McDonald’s, one of the bigger applauses came from his announcement that he has five kids. Or, as he put it, he “jumped the shark.”

The encore showcased Gaffigan’s scathing, and hilarious, take on Hot Pockets — one that was met with approval from the crowd.

Tom Shillue opened for Gaffigan, and his 15-minute set included riffs on the Frito Bandito and high school reunions.
