Irondequoit graduate Chris Culver has already started his climb up the professional baseball ranks. The Yankees promoted Culver from the Gulf Coast Yankees of the Rookie League, to the Staten Island Yankees of the NY-Penn League.

Culver hit .269 in 41 games (160 at bats) in Florida including seven doubles and two home runs.

Culver, the Yankees first-round draft pick (32nd overall) in this year's MLB draft, went 0-3 with a walk and a run on Friday in his debut with the team.

The league is the same that the Auburn Doubledays, Batavia Muckdogs and Brooklyn Cyclones play in. Staten Island is not scheduled to visit Auburn or Batavia before the end of the season in early September.
