Greece —
International Lighthouse Weekend will be held on Saturday, Aug. 20, and Sunday, Aug. 21, at the Charlotte-Genesee Lighthouse.
From Iceland to New Zealand, Turkey to Taiwan, Rochester to Chile, amateur radio operators throughout the world will establish similar broadcasting stations and link together, via radio, more than 400 historic lighthouses across 50 countries in an afternoon of international goodwill to promote the legacy of lighthouses and amateur radio.
Members of Rochester’s GRIDD Amateur Radio Group will establish a radio station and broadcast live from the Charlotte-Genesee Lighthouse in celebration of International Lighthouse Day. GRIDD has secured a special call sign for this year’s International Lighthouse operation at the Lighthouse. This call sign is “K2R.”
Additionally, those who attend will experience the science of signal lights on a climb up the 1822 lighthouse tower and will learn the science of wireless signals at the station of the GRIDD Amateur Radio Group.
The event will be held from 1 p.m. to 5 p.m. on both days and the Charlotte-Genesee Lighthouse is located at 70 Lighthouse St. in Rochester.
