This spring we took our annual visit to the vet for some vaccines and a general wellness exam for Picasso. Leptospirosis and Rabies to be exact. It’s amazing how well Picasso handles shots. I mean needles are going in him and he is wagging his tail waiting for his snack. If a 4 year old child could only do the same, or even an adult…
It is really important if you and your dog are outdoorsy that you get them their vaccines. Lepto is a virus spread by urine. It effects humans as well as other mammals, birds, amphibians, and reptiles. The last thing you want is to be treated yourself for something you could easily avoid your dog getting.
We hike outdoors all the time. All it really takes is the dog to step in a still wet urine spot and boom he can pick up the lepto.
Rabies is actually tougher get, but with the amount of time in the back country we spend, it is better safe than sorry. Our county also requires the rabies shots in order to get a dog license. If it’s not required, you are silly to not get the shot.
If you are going to have a a dog, you really should take care of it the right way and vaccines are the first step. The next step is to give the dog a life it will remember!
Ee are ready for adventure, ready to hit the trails, hopefully climb some peaks this year as well.
Do you have a dog? Do they join you on the trails like ours does? Do they hike peaks wanting only some water and a snack at the peak? If you do, let me know a story about it. I will be sure to share ours.
