It is quite amazing that two, three or all children who are raised under the same roof, with the same parents and the same rules, can have such different personalities. There are many things which shape a child’s emotional temperament, including how their behavior is recognized and addressed, sleep, frightening experiences, nurturing moments, and peer interactions, to name just a few. A frustrated father wrote to me for help with his son, who is quite the opposite of his outgoing,adventurous daughter. No matter how hard he tried, he could not convince his son to participate in team sports, or truly have fun with friends. It can be very difficult for parents to accept that each child views life differently, but it is always important to respect those differences and accept your child, with unconditional love. Diana Boggia has a masters degree in education with licensure in preschool, elementary and special education. She taught children with multiple disabilities for 15 years and has been working with parents (families) with behavioral concerns for more than 23 years. She develops individualized strategies to build self esteem and diminish negative, attention-seeking behaviors for each child to be successful in achieving remarkable results. Throughout her work with parents Diana has developed a program that includes hands-on materials encompassing limit-setting, developing structure with schedules, teaching time management, increasing listening skills and parenting with incentives, rather than threats.
